Leadership Recognition

Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

Lakeview students show leadership through their participation in a variety of sports teams including cross country running, triple ball, basketball, borden ball, and track and field. Student contribution and leadership is also acknowledged through a variety of lunch time clubs and activities such as Percu-Chant (drumming and singing group), Eco/Compost club, Chess club, Student Interest clubs, gardening club, and crochet club. Junior students play important leadership roles in the school as lunch time monitors, reading buddies paired with primary students, being responsible for reading the daily announcements, creating and contributing to student newsletters, and organizing and participating at school assemblies including Remembrance Day and Earth Day. Our students' academic, behavioural, and social successes are celebrated monthly at our Big Achievement Assembly. Graduating grade 6 students are also recognized with a variety of awards at the June Leaving Ceremony. There are many opportunities at Lakeview for students to show their leadership, participate in clubs and teams, and contribute to the school as a whole. We are so proud of our Lakeview students!

Staff

Our staff members have a diverse range of professional qualifications, and a wealth of talents and interests that they share with students through curriculum based activities as well as in leading teams and clubs. The teaching staff actively participates in numerous board–wide and school professional development activities in areas such as literacy, numeracy, the arts, social studies, special education, and technology. We recognize their initiative by providing and supporting opportunities for continual professional growth. Teachers guide and collaborate with their colleagues by sharing new ideas and teaching strategies in a variety of areas. Staff leadership is acknowledged through personal interactions with one another, letters of thanks, school announcements, school newsletters, assemblies, and our Principal’s report to School Council.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Lakeview is fortunate to have a wealth of dedicated volunteers that contribute many hours for the benefit of our students. Lakeview's school council meets monthly and through fundraising efforts has contributed funds to support many school initiatives including field trips and purchasing student resources. We are grateful for all of our volunteers for their participation on school council, supervising field trips, and assisting in a multitude of ways within our school community. We thank our parents, guardians and volunteers and acknowledge them via school announcements, our Principal’s report to School Council, school newsletters, and our annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast.

Community

Our school has a strong relationship with our next door neighbours, the residents and staff at Riverpark Place Retirement Home. Primary and junior students visit Riverpark to perform songs, and participate in other activities with the residents. We also work closely with volunteers from Ottawa-Carleton Research Institute to obtain community volunteers for the school. We recognize and thank our partners through newsletters, thank you cards and inviting them to attend the annual Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast.
